DESCRIPTION

Before starting our meetings with our artisan partners we always warm up with a painting exercise. The fish and the moon designs were first painted by Mercedes after being asked “What made you smile this weekend?” We took her painting and then hand embroidered them on each cotton vest one by one.

Crafted from our handmade cotton, this fitted vest has a swoop neck and Tagua seed buttons all down the front. The embroidery on the back adds a unique touch to this versatile, feminine vest.

MATERIALS + PROCESS

The cotton fabric is crafted in a small, family-run workshop, then each garment is carefully cut and sewn by skilled women artisans. Once assembled, every piece is individually hand screen-printed and delicately hand-embroidered by indigenous women from Santa Bárbara, Angla and Ugzha in Imbabura, Ecuador. The buttons are made of tagua seed, making the whole garment biodegradable.

Our embroidered fitted vests are cut, sewn and embroidered by hand. This means they are one-of-a-kind and almost all contain irregularities from size to color. Please allow for slight imperfections as no two shirts are alike—each one carries the signature of the hands that made it.

Each piece in this collection is carefully handmade and crafted from 100% cotton. To preserve its beauty and longevity, we recommend dry cleaning your garmet or secondarily. Lay flat to dry and avoid using a dryer, as heat can damage the natural fibers and shape. Treat it gently—just like the hands that made it.

The Story behind the Art

Before meetings with our artisan partners, we start with a simple ritual: painting. With blank paper in front of us, we loosen up our creative minds and ask, “What’s something that made you smile this weekend?” Slowly, shapes and memories begin to appear—mountains, wildflowers, birds, or friends—the observations of daily life and nature that bring joy.

This collection is a reflection of those moments. The embroidered fish design comes from Mercedes, a woman from the Flora de Choco artisan group, who commented on the meal she shared with friends over the weekend.

A Thoughtful Process—

This vest is the result of a series of careful artisanal processes. The cotton fabric is made in a small, family-run workshop, and each garment is cut and sewn by the hands of women.

The assembled pieces are individually screen printed by hand, and finally, delicately hand-embroidered by indigenous women from Santa Bárbara, Angla and Ugzha in Imbabura, Ecuador.

Hand embroidery is a traditional technique in Imbabura with its roots beyond five generations. Women in this province embroider their own shirts with colorful patterns inspired by nature.
